#SOHIP Austin Series: Pt. 1 Restaurants We Love.

June 12, 2019

Austin, Texas is a hard city to not love. It is a fusion of all the best aspects of Texas (BBQ, southern hospitality, blue bonnets) but also rich with culture from places beyond. As an ode to our vibrant city, we decided to put together the #SOHIP Austin Series to highlight our favorite things about Austin. This week we're tackling what might be one of the greatest aspects of Austin, the food
*warning: might cause mouth to water*
Here we go.
Downtown:
ATX Cocina
Where do we begin? I take that back. We begin with the ATX Margarita at ATX Cocina. This modern Tex-Mex restaurant in downtown Austin checks off all of our boxes. The atmosphere is lively, the food is delicious, and all of their ingredients are clean. Our owner, Liz, loves this place because it is 100% gluten free.
Grab your friends, sip on the margs, and dig into the "el jefe", a yummy rib-eye dish.
South Congress:
June's All Day
If you enjoy the art of people watching, June's All Day on South Congress is the place for you. Spend the late morning roaming up and down South Congress and reconvene with a glass of Rosé from their stellar drink menu. If you find yourself in need of a quick bite to eat, we recommend the appetizing board, perfect for splitting between two or three people.
Joann's Fine Foods
Joann's Fine Foods satisfies all of our patio dreams. Right next to the Austin Motel, their outdoor section is the perfect lunch escape, but if you're a night owl,  dinner is served until midnight, which makes this a solid restaurant choice anytime of day. We love sipping on a Mexican Martini followed by the grilled grouper tacos.
East Side:
Ah Sing Den
Inspired by one of the most famous London opium dens, Ah Sing Den is one of our top picks for Asian-inspired cuisine and cocktails. Grab a date and start off with the goat cheese rangoons or poke nachos (even both if you have the appetite for it). Then, indulge in lychee mules, or if you're feeling adventurous, pick the dealer's choice for a surprise cocktail.
Westlake:
Pool Burger
Steps away from Lake Austin in the Westlake Hills lies Pool Burger. Decked out with a full-on tiki bar + an Airstream trailer (which serves as the kitchen), Pool Burger is the best place to end the day after soaking up the sun. The Man Overboard is a refreshing cocktail that pairs perfectly with a classic pool burger, which in our humble opinion, can compete with the likes of P. Terry's and Shake Shack any day.
Clarksville:
Josephine's House
Josephine's House takes the cake when it comes to the most aesthetic place to dine in Austin. Set in a quaint blue house in the middle of Clarksville, it makes for the ideal weekend brunch spot. Treat yourself to the lemon ricotta pancakes, or if you prefer a savory brunch, the salmon avocado toast.
A category that can't be defined by location - BBQ:
The Salt Lick
If you're from Texas or have ever been to Texas, chances are you have heard The Salt Lick mentioned at least once. Although located outside the Austin area in Driftwood, it's hard to argue that Salt Lick barbecue is not some of the best in the state. If you have time to make the drive and are craving some insanely good BBQ, The Salt Lick will not disappoint.
We'll be back next week with more of our favorite things about our favorite city. Till then, do us a favor and indulge in some good food no matter where you are.
xx,
Southern Hippie
